The Lenovo K4 Note doesn't beat the Xiaomi Mi4i comprehensively, but it is still the better phone.
The eagerly awaited Lenovo K4 Note is finally here. At Rs 11,999, it is now one of the leading phones in its category but is it better than the Xiaomi Mi4i which too is available for the same price. So let's find out which one of these offers the maximum value for the money.
The Lenovo K4 Note and Xiaomi Mi 4i are a lot different from each other in terms of their design. While Xiaomi Mi4i is all funky colours and plastic, the K4 Note is sober in appearance and feels sturdy with metal side panels.
With dual front speakers, thick side metal panels and a fingerprint sensor in the back, the Lenovo K4 Note is clearly distinguishable. Its back cover is removable but the battery is not. The phone has a curved back which offers good grip. Lenovo has also promised to bring wooden back covers for the K4 Note which will definitely up the style quotient of the K4 Note.
In terms of figures, the Lenovo K4 Note is 9.1 mm thick and weighs 158 grams.
Xiaomi Mi4i measures 138.1 x 69.6 x 7.8 mm, and weighs 130 grams. As compared to the K4 Note, the Mi4i offers vibrant black, white, blue, yellow and pink colours. It has a matte polycarbonate back cover and it looks good in this. Note that it has a unibody and to insert SIMs, there is a tray on its left hand side.
Looks are a personal choice, but in our opinion Mi4i is definitely our choice but theLenovo K4 Note feels a bit sturdy.
The Xiaomi Mi4i has a 5 inch IPS display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, thus offering pretty good 441 ppi pixels density. The display is protected by Corning scratch-resistant glass. On the other hand, the Lenovo K4 Note has a bigger 5.5 inch IPS display but with the same resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 401 ppi, and it has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 as well.
Since both of them have identical display resolution, the viewing experience is not going to be much different. You thus have to decide which size is perfect for you. In our view, the bigger display of K4 Note is ideal for gaming and videos.
The Lenovo K4 Note has the octa-core MediaTek 6753 processing unit clocked at 1.3 GHz which runs with 3 GB of RAM. Its internal memory stands at 16 GB, to which another 128 GB can be added.
The Xiaomi Mi4i has the octa-core Snapdragon 615 (2nd gen) processing unit clocked at 1.7 GHz which runs with 2 GB of RAM. The internal memory stands at a non-expandable 16 GB.
The newer, faster, and larger processor of the Lenovo K4 Note along with one extra GB of RAM makes it the clear winner. Not to mention the higher storage (overall).
The Lenovo K4 Note runs on Android Lollipop, with Lenovo's Vibe UI on top of it; theXiaomi Mi4i runs on Android Lollipop, with MiUI 6.0, making it just as good. Both UIs are great to use in their own right, and we cannot call a winner in this round.
The Lenovo K4 Note has a 3300 mAh battery, and the Xiaomi Mi4i has a 3120 mAh unit - in both the handsets, the batteries are embedded and thus cannot be removed. As per Lenovo, the 3300 mAh battery of K4 Note offers 22 hours of talktime and 265 hours of standby.
Unfortunately Xiaomi has not revealed either the standby or the talktime of Mi4i but considering that it has a smaller display, we expect it to offer atleast the same or even better back up than the Lenovo K4 Note.
The Xiaomi Mi4i has a 13 megapixel primary camera, which is equipped with 5-element lens, f/2.0 aperture, two tone flash light, real time HDR, manual mode, and it can record full HD videos. For selfies, this Xiaomi smartphone offers a 5megapixel front camera with 5 element lens, f/1.8 aperture and 80 degree wide angle lens.
The Lenovo K4 Note has too a 13 megapixel primary camera with an aperture of f/2.2, flash, phase detection autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, panorama, dual-LED flash, and it can also record full HD videos. A 5 megapixel fixed focus camera is in its front too.
Overall, spec for spec both the phones are equal to each other. We will have to reserve further comment till a real world test of the two devices.
Both the Mi4i and K4 Note come with two SIM card slot and offer 4G connectivity.
, WiFi Direct and a micro USB port. It has GPS with GLONASS and BDS for navigation. The phone also offers E-compass, gravity, light, gyroscope, hall and proximity sensors.
The Lenovo K4 Note has Blutooth 4.0 LE, WiFi (a/b/g/n/ac), WiFi Hotspot, NFC, micro USB port and even fingerprint sensor. It has gravity, light, E-compass and proximity sensors.
The Lenovo K4 Note has a bigger display, more RAM, higher storage limit and a slightly bigger battery. That doesn't mean it has beaten the Mi4i in display or in performance section. However, Mi4i certainly fails miserably in storage section.
